Ehrwald
At the foot of the impressive Zugspitze massif lies the Tyrolean village of Ehrwald. Ehrwald is nestled between the Mieminger Mountains to the south and the Wetterstein Mountains to the north. Part of the municipality is the Ehrwalder Becken nature reserve. Here lies the Ehrwalder Moos, a nearly flat expanse in the valley from which the surrounding peaks captivate the eye. This extraordinary natural diversity can be explored on foot or by bike. In the heart of this spectacular scenery lies the holiday resort of Ehrwald.
Snowfall and winter sunshine against a breathtaking backdrop make winter sports in Ehrwald a truly special holiday experience. Right on site is the Ehrwalder Alm ski area, with about 27.5 kilometers of pistes suitable for all ability levels. There is also a well‑equipped snowpark for snowboarders and freestylers. For those who want to go higher, the Tiroler Zugspitzbahn provides access to the Zugspitzplatt and its glacier slopes. Another smaller, more family‑oriented ski area is offered by the Ehrwalder Wettersteinbahnen. Together with the surrounding terrain in the Tyrolean Zugspitz Arena, skiers have access to many kilometers of slopes in the region.
Countless cross‑country trails make the Zugspitz Arena a paradise for Nordic skiing, and modern snowmaking supports good snow conditions throughout the season. Tobogganing fun is available at the Ehrwalder Alm, with the toboggan run regularly illuminated in the evenings and lift service provided by the mountain lifts. In the village there is also an ice skating rink for winter leisure.
In summer, the recreational appeal of the surrounding mountains remains undiminished. It doesn’t always have to be the challenging Zugspitze summit – even scenic high‑altitude hikes offer opportunities to discover natural treasures amid stunning alpine scenery. For kids there are gentle climbing areas, and for more adventurous visitors there are a variety of climbing routes. Afterwards, the whole family can enjoy a stop at one of the alpine huts around Ehrwald, where homemade Tyrolean mountain specialties delight the palate. For those preferring a more relaxed ascent or descent, the Ehrwalder Almbahn is available. Cycling and mountain biking also offer endless possibilities around Ehrwald – no two tours need ever be the same.
Directly in the village is a 9‑hole golf course where golfers can tee off against a breathtaking mountain backdrop.
