Wildschönau

Auffach, Thierbach, Oberau, and Niederau — these are the four picturesque church villages of the Wildschönau municipality. The eponymous high valley lies south of Kufstein in the heart of the Kitzbühel Alps, off the beaten track of mass tourism. Whether it’s the paragliding mecca of Niederau, Oberau with its impressive parish church of St. Margareta, Auffach with the Schatzberg cable car, or the mountain village of Thierbach — Wildschönau is the ideal destination for an active, relaxing, or peaceful family holiday, whether in summer or winter. Your hosts here extend you a warm welcome!

Wildschönau – the name lives up to its promise

The charming Wildschönau high valley lies in the heart of the Kitzbühel Alps.

Over 300 kilometers of hiking trails can be discovered here. Every hiking destination is different and has its own special character: Kragenjoch (1,400 m) is a true power place. For those who want to climb the highest peak, the Große Beil at 2,309 m is the goal. The Gratlspitz (1,899 m) stands out as a striking mountain in the landscape. An ideal starting point for many mountain hikes is the Schönangeralm at the end of the valley.

Getting into the mountains comfortably is easy with the gondola lifts to Markbachjoch and Schatzberg. The new Schatzberg gondola now brings hikers even more quickly to the starting point for tours. One of the best views of the Wilder Kaiser can be enjoyed from the Markbachjoch. With the Wildschönau Card, all mountain lifts are free of charge!

Special places include the natural gorge Kundler Klamm or Thierbach, the most traditional and highest‑located of the four picture‑postcard villages.

A snack on one of the rustic alpine pastures tastes twice as good in the mountains. On “pleasure routes,” hikers pass places offering culinary delights. A mountain breakfast in the Alps is a very special way to start the day.

Wildschönau Card for holiday guests

With the Wildschönau guest card, many FREE holiday services such as mountain lifts in summer, the outdoor pool, guided hikes, children’s programs, and more are included. It is valid from the first day of your vacation and can be obtained at your accommodation.

Winter – pure enjoyment and nature

From the Schatzberg, with its wide family‑friendly pistes, you can quickly reach the Alpbachtal via the connecting gondola and explore the total ski area with 109 kilometers of excellently groomed slopes. Exciting runs can be found at Markbachjoch/Niederau. Numerous beginner lifts for first ski turns in Niederau and Oberau are ideal for children — there are 45 lifts in total.

Beyond skiing there are cross‑country skiing trails, idyllic winter hiking paths, and snowshoe routes past traditional farmhouses. The toboggan runs on the Schatzberg and at Lanerköpfl offer fun times.

Rustic inns and huts serving Tyrolean specialties and culinary delights also ensure unforgettable holiday days in Tyrol.
