Elbigenalp

In the upper Lechtal, just a few kilometers from the Bavarian border and about 40 kilometers from the district capital Reutte, lies Elbigenalp. Nestled between the Lechtal Alps to the south and the Allgäu Alps to the north, this West Tyrolean community is located in the heart of the Lechtal holiday region. Known in the local dialect as the “Duarf,” Elbigenalp is something of the cultural heart of the Lechtal: the Elbigenalp Woodcarving School, numerous woodcarving workshops, and the Geierwally Open‑Air Theatre, a natural stage set in the Bernhard Gorge, are found here. In addition to its cultural highlights, Elbigenalp also offers plenty of leisure activities in both summer and winter. Elbigenalp lies within the Naturpark Lechtal, a protected area with particularly rich flora and fauna that represents a unique natural jewel in its untouched beauty.

In winter, the lifts of the small family ski area in Elbigenalp are open. Three practice lifts and the Sonnenlift guarantee a pleasant day on the slopes for the whole family. The local ski school is located in the valley. The largest ski area in the Lechtal, in Bach im Lechtal, is just a few kilometers away and offers wonderful panoramic views. For those seeking higher‑level skiing and snowboarding, the Warth‑Schröcken / Ski Arlberg ski area awaits. The Lechtal around Elbigenalp is also a top destination for cross‑country skiing, with about 100 kilometers of groomed trails leaving nothing to be desired.

Lechtal Alps or Allgäu Alps – that question arises in summer when you head into the mountains from Elbigenalp. Here you walk across lush green alpine meadows and on to one summit after another. From Elbigenalp, you can take an easy high‑altitude trail or, for the more adventurous, ascend the Großer Krottenkopf, the highest peak in the Allgäu Alps.
