Ötz

Oetz lies at the gateway to the Ötztal, a long side valley of the Inn Valley that winds between the Geigenkamm and Stubaier Alps into the heart of the Alpine main ridge. The village, with its historic center, is located at the foot of the Acherkogel and can be recognized by its church tower rising above the village. Oetz is about 50 km west of Innsbruck, in the district of Imst.

In winter, the Ötztal is transformed into a magnificent snow-covered mountain landscape, renowned among winter sports enthusiasts. Oetz is an ideal starting point for all winter activities. Skiers and snowboarders enjoy the slopes at the Hochoetz ski area. The base station of the Acherkogelbahn is located directly in the village, providing easy access to 40 km of snow-sure slopes. For cross-country skiing, the Höhenloipe in the neighboring village of Ochsengarten or other snow-sure trails in the Ötztal are recommended. The Piburger See is a winter jewel, perfect for scenic walks or ice sports on its natural frozen surface.

A cultural highlight in Oetz is the Tower Museum, a medieval tower with its own museum and regularly changing special exhibitions.

In summer, Oetz and the Ötztaler Ache are popular with water sports enthusiasts. The river hosts regular kayaking competitions and is ideal for rafting and canyoning. Those seeking a more relaxed pace can enjoy the Piburger See in its protected landscape area, perfect for swimming or boating. Oetz is also a paradise for climbers, with local climbing gardens and numerous alpine routes nearby. Beyond action-packed activities, Oetz offers breathtaking alpine landscapes for leisurely hikes, hut tours, and scenic cycling adventures.
